NJ Cool - Building Retrofit Grants

NJ Cool provides grants to fund building retrofits that switch space heating loads from fossil fuel-based combustion systems to non-combustion-based heating systems (e.g., heat pumps) or replace high global warming potential refrigerants with lower GWP alternatives. Optional supporting work such as solar panels, battery storage, envelope improvements, and lighting upgrades is also eligible for funding. The program is funded through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).

- Applicants must propose projects that include at least one of: (A) switching 75% or more of building space heating loads from fossil fuel-based combustion systems to non-combustion-based heating systems, or (B) replacing 75% or more of existing high GWP refrigerants (700+ GWP) with lower GWP alternatives. Contractors must be registered as NJ DOL Public Works Contractors, pay prevailing wage, and (if 4+ employees) abide by affirmative action requirements.
