The Alternative Energy Revolving Loan (AERL) Program provides low-interest loans to individuals, small businesses, local governments, university units, and nonprofits in Montana to finance alternative energy systems (e.g., solar PV, geothermal, wind, biomass) and energy conservation measures installed in conjunction with an alternative energy system. The program accepts applications on a quarterly cycle and is managed by the Montana DEQ Energy Bureau.

Eligibility
Individuals, small businesses (independently owned and operated, not dominant in its field, employs 100 or fewer individuals), units of local government, units of the university system, and nonprofit organizations. Projects must be located in Montana, be technically appropriate for Montana's climate, be proven reliable and commercially available, generate energy for the sole use of the owner (net metering systems eligible), and meet all applicable certifications and standards.
