Climate Leader Communities Certification and Grant Program

A voluntary certification program evolving from the Green Communities program that provides a framework for municipalities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by electrifying non-electric energy uses and maximizing efficiency of buildings and transportation. Certified communities gain access to grant funding supporting energy efficiency projects, renewable energy siting, energy management services, and related activities.

- Massachusetts municipalities that are existing Green Communities in good standing, have established a local clean energy/climate committee, committed to eliminating on-site fossil fuel use by 2050, developed a Municipal Decarbonization Roadmap, adopted a Zero-Emission-Vehicle First Policy, and adopted the Specialized Stretch Energy Code.
