Climate Leader Communities Certification and Grant Program

A voluntary certification program evolving from the Green Communities program that provides a framework for municipalities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by electrifying non-electric energy uses and maximizing efficiency of buildings and transportation. Certified communities gain access to grant funding supporting energy efficiency projects, renewable energy siting, energy management services, and related activities.

Massachusetts municipalities that are existing Green Communities in good standing, have established a local clean energy/climate committee, committed to eliminating on-site fossil fuel use by 2050, developed a Municipal Decarbonization Roadmap, adopted a Zero-Emission-Vehicle First Policy, and adopted the Specialized Stretch Energy Code.
