Grants and loan guarantees for renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements for rural small businesses and agricultural producers. GRANT STATUS (verified May 2026): USDA is NOT accepting new REAP grant applications. RBCS is rewriting the program regulations (7 CFR 4280 Subpart B) to comply with Executive Order 14315, and no further REAP grant awards will be made until the new rules take effect. A new Notice of Funding Opportunity will be published once the rules are final, and prior applicants (both IRA and Farm Bill) will be able to reapply under the new requirements. LOAN GUARANTEES remain available and continue to be awarded throughout the pause. Historic grant ranges: renewable energy $2,500–$1M; energy efficiency $1,500–$500K; up to 50% cost share. - Grant pause confirmed May 2026: cause is the EO 14315 regulatory rewrite of 7 CFR 4280 Subpart B (NOT a direct OBBBA rescission) — no new grant awards until the rules are effective; loan guarantees continue. Illinois has a free REAP Technical Assistance Center at the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA) at Western Illinois University — they help with applications, SAM registration, and UEI registration at no cost. Contact: iira.org/vasdc/rural-energy-for-america-program-reap/. Sugar Grove, IL (~9,000 pop) may qualify as rural. Check grants.gov listing #356838 for the reopened grant window.
