EPA DERA National Grants (IL projects)

EPA-administered direct-grant program (separate from state pass-throughs) that competitively awards diesel-emission-reduction funding to regional, multi-state, and operator-level applicants. Recent IL-relevant awards include American Lung Association ($3.99M for 42-vehicle multi-state replacement), Chicago Department of Transportation ($3.83M for 10 electric bucket trucks), Environmental Initiative ($3.33M for 16 Class 8 electric trucks at Martin Brower's McCook IL distribution center), and ALA ($1.28M for locomotive APUs). October 2024 announcement: EPA released $125M in national DERA funding.

IL projects can apply directly via Grants.gov when EPA opens the annual National DERA Funding Opportunity (separate from the IL EPA state pass-through). Award sizes are 5–10x the state pass-through. Most recent IL recipients are NGOs (American Lung Association, Environmental Initiative) and city departments (CDOT). Do NOT double-count with IL-DCI-DERA-002 for the same project.
